The middle of a freezing winter, a time of washed out colours and long dark nights and Lasser finds himself locked in a world of turmoil. The doctors had said they would wake Odette from the medical induced coma and yet she still lies there in the hospital bed, eyes closed, skin like alabaster as if she is waiting to die. And now her parents are here he feels locked out of the loop and cut adrift in a sea of confusion.
He can’t think straight, can’t function and yet the world still turns and people are dying.
Within the space of an hour two men are murdered, one burns to death in a blazing car and the second is slaughtered on a rain swept street.
But what links the two men and why is someone hell bent on targeting the local Vance family?
As Lasser battles his inner demons and his world slowly falls apart he finds himself playing catch up trying to solve the crimes while yet more bodies pile up.
Yet the suffering he feels now is nothing compared to what awaits him. Soon he will be lost in a dark twisting void, a world of black despair that threatens his sanity and leaves him in a world of savage pain and regret as he realises that nothing will ever be the same again.

5 starsA man is discovered in a burning car by a jogger. Another man is shot outside a pub. When the same tattoo is discovered on both men, DS Lasser and DCI Bannister believe them to be two brothers to a minor local n’er-do well named Billy Vance. Then another woman named Nicole Welsh was connected to the bad guy was shot in front of her home.
Meanwhile, Lasser is spending time at the hospital sitting by Odette Noble’s bedside wondering if she’ll ever come out of the coma. Simultaneously, Odette comes out of her coma and Lasser’s Superintendent Carole Henson demands that he take his vacation days. This suits Lasser fine as the >>Major Incident Team is about to close in on the station to assist with the Vance case. Lasser and the team leader Peter Ryan definitely do not get along, and with Odette out of her coma, Lasser wants to spend time with her anyway. However, it doesn’t work out that way.
The two men who are committing the crimes are known from the outset. They are Mitch Smith, a driver and John Plant, a cold-blooded killer. Mitch is a screw up.
When the team suffers another tragedy, Lasser, of course feels guilty, even though it was not his fault. This one is related to Robert, Odette’s worthless brother, an inveterate gambler and lay about.
Another man is killed, and then another. Who is doing the killings? What is the connection between the men, besides the two Vance brothers?
Odette is talking to Lasser’s twin sister Natasha and the pieces begin to fall into place. And Plymouth makes a return visit…
This book is extremely well written and plotted as are all of Robin Roughley’s novels. It starts out on a suspense high note and the thrills continue throughout the book. Action-packed and very suspenseful, this book is both exciting and fast–paced with thrilling car chase scenes. Mr. Roughley is a brilliant novelist and a truly original thinker. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out!

Stations of the Cross A cracking DS Lasser crime mystery edition by Robin Roughley Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Stories that keep you riveted and turning the pages. DS Lasser is a fabulous and utterly believable hero, combined with a winning set of characters. My only complaint would be the violence of some episodes, but they are in the minority when balanced with the gripping quality of the rest of the series. Highly recommended. Jo Ann Simon
I came late to this series and binge read most of it. Like the others this was well written with dialogue that flowed true to the characters that have been developed over the last 13 books. The reasoning behind the crimes that were central to the story was bit of a stretch, but really in this series it's the characters that pull you in more than the mystery. Having said that, and spoiler coming, the wrenching loss in this one was almost too much to bear. It's a tribute to the author that the reader grieves with, almost on behalf of, the rest of the characters who have to carry on.

Stations of the Cross.
If there is a better book out there please let me know.
Book 14 of the DS Lasser series, I did not think it possible to better the previous books, how wrong was I this one of the best books I've read this year. Follow Lasser in his quest to find those responsible for the killings of the guys in Wigan. From start to finish this book had me hooked, I'm sure it will you as well. If there is only one book you'll read this year then do yourself a favour and make it this one, you will love it.

WARNING VIOLENCE
A beloved character dies in this book. She won't be seen again. Maybe talked about, but she's definitely dead.
We do FINALLY GET TO KNOW LASSER'S FIRST NAME! It's Nicholas! Which makes sense, as his Twin sister is NATASHA!
So Nicholas is a 34 yr. old, 6'3", handsome, moral, DS Police Officer w/unblemished record. Smarter than most, but has a temper. He's refused to become a DI or DCI because he hates paperwork.
Oddly enough he's got a relationship w/one of the best HIT MEN EVER. They owe each other their lives, but more importantly, the lives of the people they love the most . Plymouth is one of MY favorite characters who shows up periodically. He's also got LASSER'S MORALS.
I really hope this isn't the end of the series.
Yet another fantastic book, really don't know how you think the stories up. Can't wait for more Lasser, just love the characters.
On to the new one now Stormcock. Keep them coming.
Have read the entire series and frankly, the current edition is a bore. Personal problems galore with Lasser , Odette and now her family. Same for Bannister and his clan. Yes, there is a mystery and enough action, but the soap opera elements are tedious. Did a lot of speed reading of this one.
I love Lasser but these stories are so hard to read! There are multiple sentences thrown together in one long rambling mess, many times to the point that they are unintelligible. I think Mr. Roughley would have a gem of a series of it were properly edited. Really, it's a shame.
